We were pleased to welcome the Rt Hon Steve Reed OBE MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, to our South Village development in Leeds, following the recent announcement of £16 million in Homes England funding to unlock the next phase of the landmark regeneration project.
The visit brought together representatives from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, Homes England and Leeds City Council, who joined the Caddick team for a tour of the site and an update on plans to transform the long-derelict brownfield land into a vibrant new neighbourhood within Leeds South Bank.
During the visit, the Secretary of State heard how the recently announced Homes England investment will enable critical infrastructure works to begin, including new roads, utilities, walking and cycling routes, and significant areas of green space. These essential works will prepare the site for the delivery of 1,925 new homes, up to 650,000 sq ft of commercial space and a high-quality public realm centred around a new village green.
The Secretary of State also met apprentices from Caddick Construction, many of whom will have the opportunity to play a key role in delivering South Village as the development progresses. The visit highlighted the wider economic and social benefits of the scheme, including creating skilled employment opportunities and supporting the next generation of construction professionals.
South Village represents one of the most significant regeneration opportunities in Leeds and will form a key part of the proposed Leeds South Bank Mayoral Development Zone. Once complete, the mixed-use neighbourhood will provide much-needed homes, commercial space and sustainable public realm, helping to drive long-term economic growth while creating a thriving new community for the city.
The visit marks another important milestone for the project as Caddick continues to work in partnership with Homes England, Leeds City Council and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to bring forward one of the UK’s largest city centre regeneration schemes.
